What We Believe About...

Marrige

We believe that God is the author of marriage. We believe marriage is between one man and one woman. Marriage is the foundational unit of society, and therefore sacred and to be preserved unto death. Yet, because man became sinful, provisions were made to protect the innocent and guiltless parties. That is, there are two exceptions that allow a party to divorce: adultery and marriage to an unbeliever. Nevertheless, forgiveness and restoration should always be sought and pursued before a divorce is considered an option. Furthermore, divorce and remarriage under the correct biblical exception do not exclude a person from obtaining the office of "elder" or "deacon."First Timothy refers to "character quality" not a "form" list (married only once) but a "function" (not a womanizer).  (Gen 2:21-24; Deut 24:1-4; Hosea; Mal 2:14-16; Matt 5:31-32; 19:1-9; Rom 7:1-3; 1 Cor 7: 10-16; 1 Tim 3:2-13 Tit 1:6).
