What We Believe About...
The Fall of Mankind
We believe that man was created in the image and likeness of God but due to Adam's sin the human race fell and inherited a sinful nature, thus becoming alienated from God. This resulted in man's spiritual and physical death. By spiritual death, we mean man is totally separated from God's eternal life blessings and devoid of a positional justified standing before Him.
However, by spiritual death, we do not mean that man is spiritually insensitive and unable to respond to God's drawing. Thus man is not like a rock, who has no spiritual sensitivity. Man is spiritually sensitive which answers why throughout world history he has always searched for a "spiritual" deity to please, which proves their "spiritual sensitivity."
Hence God can blame humanity for denying His existence through natural revelation (Rom 1:18-32). As a result of sin, man also died physically (Gen 3:1-24). Total depravity means men are incapable of earning a righteous standing before God and thereby eternal life through meritorious works (Rom 3:10-12, 20, 23; 5:12).
Furthermore, total depravity does not mean men are incapable of doing humanitarian good deeds. He can because God's image was not totally eradicated at the fall (Genesis 1:26-27; 2:17; 6:5; Psalms 14:1-3; 51:5; Jeremiah 17:9; John 3:6; 5: 40; 6:35; Romans 3:10-19, 22-23; 5:12-21; 6:23; 8:6-7; Ephesians 2:1-3; 1 Timothy 5:6 1 John 3:8).
